It will cost you about $100 per year to host your website. There are free web hosting sites, but you cannot select your own domain name.
Note that the internal links in the Navigation Bar will not work until you publish your site on a hosting site!
Go to https://www.godaddy.com. First you will select a domain name. Enter the domain name you want. If the domain name has been taken, a box will tell you so. The site will come up with a list of alternative domain names. Pick one of those or a new one. A domain name can range in price from $15 to $1000’s per year. Set up your account to pay for the domain name, and the web hosting. The cost to host your website is about $80 per year or $6 per month. I get the least expensive hosting. The details in setting up your domain name and hosting account vary over time. If you encounter a problem call GoDaddy technical support. They will guide you through the process. You will need the following information at the end of the process. We will need this information in the next section when we use Filezilla.
The Godaddy hosting provides a cpanel (short for control panel) account which is a dashboard of apps for managing your website. Some are free and some cost additional money. You can use the cpanel app to transfer your files to the internet. But the app is limited. Filezilla is better. It is free for Linux and Windows. To access the cpanel go to www.yourdomain.com/cpanel and type in your username and password. You should test access to the cpanel account with username and password. The cpanel account must be working before you move on to the next step. Call technical support if you have a problem so far. You are now ready to open Filezilla FTP client and upload your directory or files to the internet.
